Hakubai Temple is in Boulder, Colorado, where we practice
in the Zen Buddhist tradition as a “daughter”
temple of Joko-ji Temple in Kamo City, Japan. We are associated
with other temples in the lineage
of Kobun Roshi.
Hakubai is dedicated to the practice
of zazen, or sitting meditation. We have daily practice, cultural
programs, sesshins, and other ceremonies such as baby blessing
ceremonies, funerals, weddings, and ordinations. See schedule
for our normal practice periods.
Our Abbot is Hakubai Zenji (Martin
Mosko), a Zen priest ordained and trained in the Soto tradition.
He has studied extensively for over 31 years, both in the
United States and in Japan, with Hojosama Keibun Otokawa
Roshi. He has been fully authorized to teach by Soto Headquarters
in Japan and was installed as abbot of Hakubai in the Mountain
Seat Ceremony in the spring of 2004.
The Temple grounds have won an
award for their beauty and peacefulness. An important part
of our practice during sesshin is to help to maintain this
beautiful area.
